Hualien Wins Bid to Host the 2026 International Children's Games (ICG)!
Hualien County, Taiwan – Led by Education Department Director Weng Shu-Min, the Hualien County Government team has successfully secured the hosting rights for the 2026 International Children's Games (ICG). During their inspection visit to Hualien in March this year, members of the ICG Executive Committee expressed high praise for the county's sports venues. At the committee meeting yesterday (May 16), the bid received unanimous support from all members, reflecting strong confidence that the Hualien County Government will bring a fresh and vibrant experience to the upcoming Games.
The 2026 ICG is scheduled for early August 2026 and is expected to welcome around 2,000 athletes from cities around the world. Competitions will be staged at eight venues, including Hualien County Stadium, Guo-Feng Junior High School, Mei-Lun Junior High School, Yi-Chang Junior High School, and others, featuring athletics, swimming, football, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, archery, and 3x3 basketball. The Athletes' Village will be located at National Dong Hwa University, providing a unique environment for participants to engage in friendly competition, experience different languages and cultures, and promote international exchange.
Hualien County Mayor Hsu Chen-Wei stated that the county has accumulated rich experience in hosting major sports events, such as the National High School Games and the National Games, earning widespread recognition and praise. She expressed full confidence in delivering a successful 2026 ICG and pledged to devote every effort to the event's preparation.
In recent years, the Hualien County Government has actively pursued hosting rights for international sporting events, integrating sports with arts and tourism to attract visitors from around the globe. It is hoped that athletes from different countries will not only enjoy Hualien's stunning mountains and seas and its deep cultural heritage, but that local Hualien athletes will also have the chance to compete at home, with everyone coming together to witness their outstanding performances.
